Our Response To COVID-19
Facing the California COVID-19 Crisis Together
On January 25, 2020, the first confirmed COVID-19 case was identified in the California, signaling the beginning of the pandemics arrival. This uninvited and unwelcome virus disrupted the delicate balance of our mental health and immune system, triggering heightened stress, anxiety, and uncertainty that challenged our emotional well-being.
Overnight, our care team came together to develop and implement strategies that would safeguard each other and minimize the chances of exposure. Needless to say, most of us encountered this virus in some form, with many experiencing illness severe enough to require hospitalization. Our staff continued to provide and practice universal care precautions in all home settings.
The isolation (quarantine phase) during our clients’ recovery offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen and expand our caregiving skills, deepening our insight and resilience in the face of diverse challenges.

Improvising Ways of Creating In-House PPE Protection for Our Team
During the height of the global PPE shortage, we were tasked with unprecedented challenges that demanded quick thinking and creative solutions. Facing limited resources, our team remained resilient and proactively researched alternative methods to safely improvise PPE. We improvised protective equipment by tailoring contractor bags into gowns, sewing custom cloth facial masks, mixing hand sanitizer with alcohol content and distributing it in bottles, creating shoe spray for our clients, and sanitizing surfaces with vinegar. In addition, we also repurposed medical shoe coverings for alternate applications.
